Jemput jemput pisang/ CeKODOK/Banana Balls

Image
Burp! Alhamdulillah... dah berbuka semua? We berbuka at home today. Actually since puasa started 9 days ago, memang kami berbuka at home. We prefer it that way. Tak kelam kabut nak solat maghrib di luar although Alhamdulillah sekarang ni banyak tempat berbuka dah provide tempat bersolat. Tapi mana boleh beat buka at home, lepas buka boleh terus lepak-lepak atas katil solat Maghrib kan? kan? So we either tapao from one of the shops near home or wherever we fancy or I would cook simple stuff for buka. Today our menu was : our usual brown rice, ikan goreng selar kuning (yellow thread fish), kangkung goreng belacan ( water spinach fried with prawn paste chilli), acar buah (bought from my cousin) , my husband’s telur dadar (omellete) and for sweets, I made jemput jemput . This is what we call these banana balls or orang belah sini panggil cekodok (I could never associate this beauties with an animal name, though... kodok sounds kinda gross). So for people who asked how to mak...

Simple dinner when you've stuffed yourself crazy during the day

Image
We had a family lunch of Dim Sum and Chinese food today at Unique Seafood, Petaling Jaya. Hard to find Halal Dim Sum and when I found out about this one; and 50% discounts on Dim Sum during lunch, I have to go! After we dropped off my son and father in law at home, we went around looking for a big rice cooker for me to use for cooking big batches for catering. After a few shops, we finally found one at a shop in SS2. Well, made a deposit but hubs would have to collect the pot tomorrow. Then when to get some baking supplies at Bake With Yen in Taman Mega, PJ. Cake orders coming in for year-end parties annd such. Alhamdulillah! When one go to Bake With Yen in Taman Mega, one must not NOT drop by Joy Bakery  just beside it for old fashion, home made cakes, I'm a baker that enjoys discovering and eating other people's bakes. Senang cakap suka makan laaa. All that eating and then dinner...Haih makan lagi. So I thought ok lah let's settle for a simple dinner. Brough...

Awesome Mother's Day Weekend

Image
I don't remember ever celebrating Mother's Day with my own Mak. I don't even remember people talking about it when I was a kid. Maybe old age is getting to me, but yeah, I don't remember. It's only when I became a mum of 4 that all these talks about Mother's Day came about. And we see the commercialisation of the whole thing. The flowers, the cards, the gifts, the whole jing-bang. Nothing wrong with it all. If all the kids and dads in the world need a day to remember to celebrate us mummies, so be it. Bask in the attention, eat all the delicious food, indulge in the desserts, cherish the gifts, flowers and make them feel good celebrating us. My own Mak in JB is oblivious to Mother's Day. Even more so now, 2 years after her stroke. I called just to speak to her and asked her how she's doing, which is rare coz she doesn't answer the phone herself. I get updates from my sisters. I would rather sit with her to ask her how she is. But she sounded ev...

Biryani, anyone?

Image
I had the opportunity to sample the Biryani at a newly opened restaurant in Subang USJ. CLASSIC BIRYANI has just opened for business this week. Anyone who knows me, would be aware that I am a food enthusiast, who loves trying out new restaurants, cafe and stalls. Suka makanlah, senang cakap. So when a relative of the owner invited a group of us, orang-orang Johor to the restaurant for lunch, I couldn't say no. More importantly, of course was to meet these fine ladies and gentlemen from my birth state. The food was a bonus. We tried the mutton biryani which was served in a tray for 4 people. The mutton was cooked in the traditional Biryani gravy, which was both sweet and nicely spiced. A boiled egg in the rice, the dhall gravy  and the acar completed the set. The aroma of the biryani cooked using my favorite basmathi grains was really, really good. This picture does not do justice to the biryani We sampled the Rojak Tahu (salad of bean curd, bean sprouts and cucumbe...

ZEN "Star Chef" Search

Image
Pengkritik-pengkritik makanan yang agak serius The 6 hopefuls.....Imran!!! Mama nak Imran jadi chef lar!!! Worth mentioning...Trevor's Black Sesame Oreo Cheesecake Nice food on display Jeff said " I only use very ripe bananas" for his Banana Choc Slice I was in Zen at Sooka Sentral where the 2 stage of the sea rch for the "star chef"culinary talent just took place. I have never been to Sooka so this was a good opportunity to check it out. I was one of the ‘mystery’ judge s for this r ound where the 6 contestants were judged base d on the food they have prepared plu s their s ta r qualities. What exactly are these star qualities, you say? I supposed it’s their personalities, the way they handled themselves when questions were asked about the food they have prepared, their characters e tc, etc, etc.. The 6 contestants are all students from the vario us culinary schools in the country. Today they presented the food that they have prepared. The be...

Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa Dataran Sunway

Engkorang biasa tak makan nasi lemak antarabangsa kat kg baru?? Ala...yang ramai artis dok pergi, pas tu kengkadang orang beratur ramai nak makan tuh??? And I must add, kegemukan tikus-tikus kat situ memang confirmkan nasi lemak tu sedap ker???? Btw, I can't recall the last time I went there...and tak der pun terasa nak pergi sebab akak jarang masuk KL sebenarnyer...So while I was driving home from work yesterday, I sudah ternampak buntings that says the restaurant is opened in Dataran Sunway...Apa lagi??? Dengan kadar segera I called hubby to reconfirm whether the place is opened as it's near his office. And when he said yes, terus perut kiew yang kenyang jadi lapar balik... Right after I picked up Imran and Aisyah from skool, terus g sana..and hubby was already waiting. Nice set up, nice place - a far cry from their Kg Baru joint. We ordered 3 sets of the different types of dishes that comes with the nasi lemak. And Aisyah shrieked when she saw Air Bandung Soda on the menu.....

Santini Lunch

Image
If you guys are looking for a place to have lunch and are located anywhere in PJ like we are, you should check out Santini in Tropicana City Mall. They have lunch set at RM14.50++ per set which are dirt cheap for the food they serve, y'all!! Real nice Italian stuff! For the 4 of us, we only ordered 3 sets and forked out only RM51 for the whole lunch...kewl bananas!! And I must mention the bread basket which came free, on the side. And the bread was still warm when it was served..nyum..nyum..My only regret was we were too full to order desserts and Lynn didn't come with us to insist that we order dessert..huwargh!!! Apa lagi tunggu, pergi lar!!
