Istanbul, so what's the plan?

I tried running today. Just 3 km. After more than 2 weeks of inactivity after the fall while hiking at Tabur West . As expected, my legs felt heavy and the hills near home that I used to just run up to felt hard, I had to stop 3/4 of the way before continuing again. Hubs hasn't been running for about a month, what with events organising,  the last few weeks. The coccyx felt ok, no major pain. Tunggu esok and look out for any pain.   Am taking it easy but we decided we have to try and run daily till our trip to Turkey to get at least 15 to 20 km mileage done. Yeay!! Turkey! That's finally happening! Some of us from the runningkakis will be running the 15km at the Istanbul Marathon . A run-cation like our Hong Kong Marathon trip in February and Kuching Marathon in August. I figured why not combine a vacation with running? And Turkey in November will be awesomely...cold? We will be running at a possible start temperature of 12-13 degrees..brrrr... ...

Run Happy in happy feet (or rather..shoes)

When I first started running, I bought myself a pair of Nike. Nike has always been my favorite brand since my school days more because I can't afford them. Y'know how it is when you crave for stuff that you can't immediately have and the minute you can , that will be the first thing you grab. So my first shoes I bought was one of the running shoes in the Nike Bowerman series, which turned out to be the wrong fit, perhaps because I was buying in a rush. After that first pair, I had another one, the Nike Pegasus, which served me well , before I moved to Asics. We made the trip down to Singapore just to get that pair of Asics Gel Cumulus 12. The Asics boutique in Paragon, Orchard Road. Those were the days..now they are up to version 15. These are cushioning shoes which are perfect for my high arched feet and neutral running. Asics is big on their Gel pod technology and this one has plenty. I remember it being nicely soft but at the same time the...

Brooks Half Marathon 2013

So yeah, after a series of injuries..that somehow all happened post Raya two years in a row on the same side of the foot (right side) I am back running. Taking a break every year,  for 4 months each, have proven to be a bane for my run time, which was not that great to start with. Had to forego 3 earlier runs, The Adidas King of The Road in September which Fairy ran for (she wrote about this here and here ) the Nike Run in November  and the MPIB Run in January. Darn! That' s a lot of money! I wouldn't say that I have fully recovered but I feel less sore with each weekly run that I did. So there was the Brooks Half Marathon 2 weeks ago. A come back run of sorts, which has proven to be a slow, heavy one. To start with, the running vest was ORANGE!!? What gives? This colour is after me! The starting line was very narrow, what with almost 12,000 runners, I was told. So at gun off, we had to let the faster runners start, followed by the rest of us mere mort...

SCKLM2012..An emo, happy run..

More than 24 hours after a half marathon...I had visions of writing this blog post as I ran yesterday. Figuring out exactly how I was going to write this. And now, I can hardly recall the stuff that I wanted to say. I totally enjoyed the run...Keseronokan total! I thought I wouldn't. Ever since my friend TSB passed on last year, my running pattern has suffered...not that I am putting the blame on what has happened. I got busy and the mileage somehow got tapered along with the rut of life. This Japanese guy ran a full marathon playing that horn...Amahzinggg!! (pic by Teh EngTiong) My RunningKaki and I try as much as possible to run regularly and in May, we even managed to travel to Sabah for the Borneo Run, albeit just a 10k for me. We stayed in a hotel near the starting line just to avoid the early morning rush. Wise decision, indeed. Citin Hotel at Jalan Masjid India is a nice, comfy inn. We came down for the 6am gun off at 5:45 am and s...

I was late this morning..but the traffic was kind. Received a call from Adit,a work acquaintance turned friend "Assalamualaikum kak..I hate to be the bearer of bad news but i got a call that Kharis has just collapsed.. I hope it's nothing but the prognosis is not so good..." After asking of his possible where about, which was en route my way to work, I told Adit, I would go to the site...and wham! the road is jammed up again...I texted Adit, asking if it's possible that he's no longer there and would have been taken to a hospital...and he texted..he doesn't know. I was imagining that Kharis my friend would be sitting up after being given help and when I see him I would joke about the whole thing..I actually had the scene playing in my head...A short drive later, I reached the road near the Kelana Jaya stadium and my heart skipped a bit to see an ambulance and 2 police cars...Then I saw Yanthy, his wife sitting on the tarmac with his head on her lap..My frie...

Tulang oh tulang...

Ini ialah tulang kaki kanan Here's an x-ray of my right toes...I think they looked quite scary...Allah's creation is beautiful, but I was careless and clumsy to have walked or rather bumped against my Mak's heavy furniture during the hari raya break. It has now been 40 days since the 'accident'. Kalau orang beranak memang dah habis pantang...but alas it's not the case here. The first few days after the incident, the whole right leg was swollen..I had my feet up the the whole trip back to KL from JB. And for the next few weeks, i was an official limper. I wore sandals and clogs to work, and had to duck everytime I see senior management to avoid them seeing me in sandals. For the first week, I had to resort to wearing baju kurung to work everyday, coz they are the only baju that at least didn't look weird with the sandal. And it was R.I.C.E all the way..(almost..). Rest, ice, compress & elevate..and expensive Phiten Titanium plaster and co...

Events of the last 3 months

It has really been that long huh? Kalau pokok dah tinggi, kalau baby dah boleh gelak...(which is true coz my sister's baby, Najla can hold baby talk with me and she's not even 3 months yet) My life has been going through phases of change within these 3 months...From my last post on Aisyah's SPM results, she has gone through the stress of applying for uni, choosing, rechoosing the courses and finally being accepted for the 5th course of her choice. Diploma in Artistic Writing...What is that? We were confused and was wondering about it as well. But the fact that the faculty is FACT - Faculty of Arts and Creative Technology, we guessed that the course would be connected to the Performing Arts...my..my... my child is going to be artistically, entertainment, media inclined...Ke mana tumpahnya kuah...(where does the gravy spilt???) Campus is at Puncak Perdana about 10km from home, but it didn't stopped me from missing her whenever she's not home. Been almost 2 months ...
