Lat The Musical - a mother's account Part 1

We were privileged to get seats to the preview of LAT Sebuah Muzikal on Tuesday night, a day before it opens for the public.Our third child, Khairin has always been interested in dancing and singing but she has always been shy to perform in front of an audience. It was not until lately that she developed the courage to do so. I think watching GLEE has a lot to do with this change.

When I found out through Christina (Mrs Afdlin) FB wall that Tall Order is having an open audition for kids for the musical, i asked her if she wants to try. Amazingly, she said yes immediately but not without asking what she has to do at the audition. And I told her, they will probably ask her to sing or dance a bit and she asked if it will be in a big group and not wanting to scare her, said I don't think so. And I was not surprised, on the morning of the audition she said, she doesn't want to go after all. So I told her I was going to go to work then. After shower, there she was waiting for me, quite decided that she wants to audition after all.

So off we went to Istana Budaya and there were about close to 100 kids and more came when we were there. Thank goodness for the ipad we managed to wait through as I was ready to give up! So the kids were ushered into the audition room 5 at a time and each of them had to sing a song. She chose to sing Justin Bieber's Smile. And they were also given scripts to memorize and read.

After the whole things was over, we were told to wait around. After all the auditions was done, we (us and a boy's family) was called in to meet Hans Isaac, the producer/director and we were told that "We think that your children are very (stress on the VERY haha) talented and it's amazing that both of them came in for audition together in the same group and what we want to do now is to audition them again together" and I thought "What?! More waiting?" but I was very proud of her.

So we waited for a while and Khairin and Aiman was called in again and recorded on camera,  singing their songs to each other. My guess is they wanted to see the chemistry between these two and after all that was over we were sent off home and was told to expect a call from them. Haish!! More waiting...after that 7 hours one!
