LAT the musical- A mother's account Part 2

Tak kuasa kan siap ada part 2..Well, it's not everyday that I blog..And warning, this will be almost an essay..

So after the first audition (please read part 1 if you are lost), we were waiting for the company to call us and when they did a few weeks later..in 2011 (first audition was in 2010 hehehe..), it was for Khairin to come for another audition. So by that time, she was already quite busy with other voice over jobs for ASTRO, and we were worried if we could not commit to the schedule.

And we were almost 70% sure that we better not go for the 2nd audition because of this. But we were 70% curious as well, so that Saturday we went again. This time the shortlisted kids were given lines to read and dance steps to follow. That lasted almost the whole day and again we were sent home with not very definite YES or NO. When I received an email 6 days later, it was to confirm that she's in and the very extensive rehearsals time.

Another dilemma...to accept the offer or not...coz it wud disrupt our schedule with all the ferrying from home in Subang 2 to KLPAC in Sentul, her extra classes schedule, her school schedule and also her twice a week VO schedule in Cheras (we were already struggling with that). After weighing in the pros and cons coupled with her obvious enthusiasm to be a part of the show, we caved in. And a lot of it , we owe to hubs' willingness to do all the ferrying around. And she has not missed a day of school since she started with rehearsals.

Practising her song, Daniel on the left plays LAT and that's Kudin from Headwind kof, kof.
So rehearsals for the kids started in January, up to 8pm almost daily and also the weekends. She totally enjoyed the whole thing, the hard work and the new friends she made. She was learning about breathing  techniques for singing, vocals, acting and dance steps from some of the best in the country. And all throughout the last 2 and a half months of rehearsals, she has never missed a single day of school. Tall Order was very  accommodating to the kid's schedules and on days that she has her VO jobs, she was excused from rehearsals. So we are thankful for all that.

The last week of rehearsals moved to Istana Budaya and the last show will be on the 5th April.

And the preview show blew me away...totally..and not because Khairin is in it. I watched the last show of Terima Kasih Cinta which I loved for the familiar songs ( a few of Sheila Majid's songs was featured) and the fact that they can do so much with the simple set, but LAT is a totally different show. Thanks to Datuk Lat's cartoons which made up the extensive sets, the costumes, the songs and the stellar acting. The big names are limited to AWIE, ATILIA, DOUGLAS CHEW, OMAR ABDULLAH and JALIL HAMID but the stage presence of each of the supporting actors and ensemble was very impressive as well.

All the talented kids casts
The rehearsals was well worth the effort coz the kids (the non-pros) can now claim that they are at least semi-pros.

All throughout rehearsals, we didn't see her acting and playing her parts so that night, when we saw the performance for the very first time, we can't help but felt that the whole experience was surreal,  looking at her on stage, so full of confidence singing, dancing and acting her lines. While I felt a lump in my throat, suppressing my tears, Aisyah confessed that she cried watching her sister perform. And hubs said, he felt like crying but was too nervous for Khairin. She did her Perak accent naturally.

Awie and Atilia has excellent vocals for the show and successfully played their characters, that I felt each heart wrenching, happy, sad and funny moments of the show. Omar Abdullah was fantastic as the late Arwah Pak Samad Ismail, and lent the show the comedy with his character. The troop of ensemble are super, super talented as well.

The sets are beautiful. I especially love the London scenes and the way they did the transition from the child Lat to the adult Lat.

This morning, Khairin appeared on The Breakfast Show along side Hans Isaac, Atilia and a rep from ITJN. Again she amazes me when she coolly handle questions from the hosts.

This entry does not do justice for the musical and its casts . Get your tickets here and you'll see what I mean.
