Awesome Mother's Day Weekend

I don't remember ever celebrating Mother's Day with my own Mak. I don't even remember people talking about it when I was a kid. Maybe old age is getting to me, but yeah, I don't remember. It's only when I became a mum of 4 that all these talks about Mother's Day came about. And we see the commercialisation of the whole thing. The flowers, the cards, the gifts, the whole jing-bang. Nothing wrong with it all. If all the kids and dads in the world need a day to remember to celebrate us mummies, so be it. Bask in the attention, eat all the delicious food, indulge in the desserts, cherish the gifts, flowers and make them feel good celebrating us.

My own Mak in JB is oblivious to Mother's Day. Even more so now, 2 years after her stroke. I called just to speak to her and asked her how she's doing, which is rare coz she doesn't answer the phone herself. I get updates from my sisters. I would rather sit with her to ask her how she is. But she sounded ever so cheerful, on the phone, I put down the phone smiling, feeling blessed for having my  sisters looking after my Mak in JB, Allah bless them, Ameennn...

And on this side of the country, we checked out a cafe in Paramount Garden PJ on the eve of Mother's Day. It is actually for Zaim's overdue birthday dinner. AWESOME CANTEEN lived up to its name, with retro decor, abstract naive paintings and awesome food to boot. I love old stuff. And seeing them displayed in such a nice environment was refreshing, the irony.

The birthday boy's Cremuce Prawn RM39.90. Even Chewy looked at the creamy mushroom rice and prawns with envy.
The presentation of the food was very nice, ala fine dining. The menu is quite extensive with pastas, burgers, poultry and seafood. What's interesting is that they also have a paleo menu, the first I have encountered in a eatery.

Aisyah' s Sloppy Woppy Sandwich, with bolognese sauce. Too light for her, I guess coz she ordered a baked potato after walloping the burger. This was RM16.90
Abang's Awesome Celebration Chicken which is essentially roast chicken. RM29.90 comes with peas and salad.

My Paleo Butterfish, a better choice for me. The fish was juicy, and my favourite Japanese sweet potato sweetened the deal. At RM26.90 it gave me space for dessert.

Khairin's Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Chicken Breast. She was a happy kid. Big portion but that didn't stop her from desserts after.

Mother's get a carnation on Mother's Day eve, which was sweet of them. I must add that the desserts were divine. The apple crumble, salted caramel chocolate cake and the cheese cake was quickly cleared by all of us. They were gone before I could get photos! The canteen also served freshly bottled fruit juices. Hubs was adventurous and ordered  the passionfruit, orange and yoghurt juice.

Cool ambience, cooler kids..hehe..

We had an awesome time. Have some yourselves here -- 19, Jalan 20/13, Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya. Waze your way there!
