5.30am club - Day 2

Salam and Good morning!

I've been awake since forever..5.30ish..

So Tuesday was my first day in the office. I work twice a week in a brand strategy and consulting company in Subang Jaya. So yeah, Tuesday being the first day of work in 2017 and during huddle (Every start of the week, there's taichi in the morning, lead by the CEO (how cool is that?!!) followed by a standing meeting (the huddle) which could be as short as 45 minutes or somedays could run longer depending on the agenda of the day. So during this particular huddle, after all the acknowledgements, focus of the week, personal and work gratitude, Patrick, our CEO announced the reintroduction of the 5am club, to a few groans and some enthusiatics cheers. You see, some of the team members are already on this (like it was some kind of a feel-good drug hehe).

So it's official and everyone bought the idea of waking up at 5.30am daily (with 5am being the ultimate goal). A whatsappp group was set up for support and accountability. On top of that, official working time for the team will be rescheduled to 8am to 5pm plus 7am reporting time in the office for early yoga, tai chi, reading, body combat etc. etc. etc.

The idea of waking up that early is so that you have that extra time, that quiet time to start off the day, get work emails out of the way, do some reading, meditate, pray before the busy-ness of the day gets to you. Since I work from home most days, I used that extra hours (based on yesterday and today), to run early, get the laundry going earlier, getting to emails earlier, reading, coffee and now blogging. I'm figuring that the routine will set in soon, where I would have a better idea of how to use these extra hours more productively. For now, my goal is to just that early start.

For someone who never, ever falls asleep before 1am, I guess I am really just diving into it, which is great that we have a 'support & encourage' group going on whatsapp. I whatsappped them at 2 ish pm yesterday to just check on people's energy level as mine was dipping after lunch and it's great to have friends cheering you on.  And I must add, I only had 2 cups of long black yesterday, despite the fact that I was 'sleep-walking'.

I usually set my morning alarm at odd times like 6:03, 6:08, 5:43, the likes...and will end up waking up at 6;30am for Subuh prayers. The snooze button was my best friend. If I'm not going into the office, I will end up going back to bed and the rest is history. Hard to stay awake when bed time is haphazard.

So my first night strategy was to set the alarm (I used the phone and should really get an alarm clock) at 5.23 (toldja!) and put the phone on the dresser (I have to get up to shut it off). This is radical for me as I usually have the phone right beside the bed and will end up scrolling the phone into the wee hours of the morning ;(( and also telling myself that I am expecting a call from Abuboo. It's day time in the US yo!

I also set the alarm to sleep at 11am.  First night : I turned in early and TNB decided to black-out our area while I was half asleep (causing a commotion among the kids and husband) but I'm proud to say I stayed put and continued sleeping (albeit the blanket). Was told the black out lasted more than an hour (I wonder now, how I managed to sleep on).

Yesterday night, I attended piloxing at the gym. Y'know how exercise keeps the body awake right? Class ended at 10ish, I got home, rested for a bit, showered and rushed into bed at 11.30pm. Must have beeen tired, and sleep came early, Alhamdulillah.

The challenge would be tomorrow when I will be going to the office at (7am), hmmm...Will see how that works, shall we? Till then, have a productive day!
